Workplace Violence

Put Together a Violence Prevention and Intervention Plan with Athos

Every organization, no matter the size or sector, needs an integrated workplace violence prevention and intervention strategy. Highly publicized events involving active shooters are statistically rare and constitute only one facet to be considered. Workplace violence includes much more common and less severe incidents including assaults, threats of violence, stalking, and spillover of external domestic issues into the workplace.

In their joint standard on workplace violence, ASIS International (formerly the American Society for Industrial Security) and the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) recommend the integration of policies, processes, and protocols to prevent threatening behavior and violence in the workplace and to address threats and violence that have already occurred. The Standard, and industry best practice, details the process of constructing a strategy based on a risk assessment by qualified security professionals. The strategy developed provides for training of employees and details specific steps to be taken when threats or acts of violence occur.

Development of an organization’s workplace violence strategy requires experienced and qualified professionals, like those at the Athos Group. Our former corporate security directors, trainers, and law enforcement executives have decades of experience helping our clients with every facet of their response, from assessment, to strategy development, to stakeholder training, and management of ongoing threats or violence.
